Cosmic Conversations: Jon Bass

Jon is another near and dear friend to us that we were so happy to feature here.

As an actor, he has an incredible knack for bringing depth to every character he embodies, continuing to impress as he navigates the complexities of both comedy and drama in his evolving career.

He’ll make you laugh, he’ll make you cry, and your day will always be brighter if you ever get to meet his dog Friday.

Sun / Moon / Rising:
Virgo / Taurus / Virgo

How do astrology / tarot / esoteric arts play a role in your life?

It really comes into play when I say I’m a virgo and people make a look like, “Oh…” And I start to worry that there’s something wrong with being a Virgo, but then I remember that Beyonce is a virgo and I don’t worry about it as much.

What limiting beliefs / blocks have you worked through to get where you are today? Where do you still want to go?

I think the biggest thing that I’ve worked through, and this was a big one for me, was not blaming others if things weren’t going my way. It gave me a resolve that allowed me to stop looking to others to fix things that were in my control. Why waste life thinking that there are other people that control your happiness? I’d like to work harder on putting things into action with a little more comfort. Right now, I really need to push myself to make things happen, I wish I didn’t put so much pressure on myself and allowed it to come more naturally.

Why do you think creative exploration and expansion are important in today’s world?

Oh man, when has it not been? Creativity makes the world go round. Without it, we wouldn’t have Beyonce. Is that Virgo enough of an answer?

What’s your approach to natural wine? Why do you love it? Do you have any rituals?

My approach to natural wine is drinking it, and then feeling better about myself because I think I won’t have as bad of a hangover, but sometimes… SOMETIMES it’s the worst kind of hangover imaginable. Turns out it’s still alcoholic…

How do you nurture balance in your life? Any tips / tricks on how to enjoy yourself and stay grounded?

I’m an absolute comfort monster. It’s what I’ve really leaned into these last couple of years. I don’t know if it was the pandemic or what (definitely the pandemic) but I really figured out how to be as comfortable as possible. For me, it starts from the ground up, don’t try to be cool, don’t try to be severe, just get really comfortable. I’m talking couch - comfortable, bed - comfortable, clothes (and this is a big one) - comfortable. Have a set of clothes that are just for the home, that realllllyyyyy let you sink into comfort. Don’t worry, I still think you should be cool, and mysterious, and awesome, and sexy, but don’t be afraid of sinking into comfort too.

What’s filling your cup this season?

New York City and a bunch of first dates hoping to find that thing, you know? love.

Who and what is inspiring you right now?

I’m finding a lot of inspiration in a lot of the new movies that have been coming out lately that aren’t based on IP. The LONGLEGS, The STRANGE DARLINGS… don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed Alien:Romulus, I’m a sucker for a good time, but I’m always stoked when we get to see something new and be surprised.

Dream dinner party guests – dead or alive.

I’d like to have a dinner with my great grandparents. They seemed cool. Owned a textile factory in Prague, and sadly perished in the Holocaust. I visited their apartment, which was above the textile shop. It was called “The Place with Blue Grapes” because there was an insignia on the top of the apartment exterior of a man surrounded by blue grapes. Surreal that it was still there, the facade at least. The interior had been turned into office buildings.

Where’s your happy place?

Zu Yuan Spa on Canal Street. Best foot massage in the world.

What’s the best advice you’d give your younger self?

Advice? To my younger self? Don’t worry about what other people say, do your thing. And don’t worry, it’s not small. Actually, a lot of women don’t care about that sort of thing. Some do, they call them size queens, but you’re good, younger me.
