Cosmic Conversations: Tess Comrie

Tess is a photographer and musician who currently lives in Los Angeles, accompanied by her tiny dog.

Her profound inner world and deep empathy for humanity bring a certain je ne sais quoi to her work. We’re biased because we love her, but you can also ask the people who have seen her perform, her voice is channeled by nothing less than angels looking to bring greater beauty into this world, and you make you feel, really feel.

How do astrology / tarot / esoteric arts play a role in your life?

I found myself turning towards astrology or the esoteric arts when I feel like I need a little bit of a boost for understanding themes at play in my life at any given moment - So often do i find those themes in line with what’s going on astrologically. Tuning into that wisdom has been such a beautiful tool to aid in my own healing, growth and transformation.

What limiting beliefs / blocks have you worked through to get where you are today? Where do you still want to go?

My biggest limiting beliefs  around deservingness and not feeling good enough - I’ve unpacked levels of it to get to a place of self trust and confidence that has allowed me to take major steps forward in the past years, but as I expand into my fullest self there are always new laters to shed. The work of unblocking these has been the most life-affirming work I’ve ever done and now feels integral to how I live my life and a real source of vitality and strength.

Why do you think creative exploration and expansion are important in today’s world?

Oh wow. I think they’re everything. I don’t really know what the point is without them - creation is essential to life, at its core - and expansion is what’s constantly asked of us. Its so easy to shrink and settle into one size, or one picture of what life should look like or what we should be creating, but the expansion is where joy floods in. Life is inherently so challenging, but to take up space for creative play is to make it worthwhile, and ultimately, I believe, can lead to discoveries that make a little bit of sense of the chaos.

What’s your approach to natural wine? Why do you love it? Do you have any rituals?

I don’t have many rituals around wine but I love enjoying it with people i love or am curios about, in a beautiful setting. Ideally, somewhere serene where you can savor the wine and the company and really have presence around the experience. I don’t drink often alone, but every once in a while a glass or two of a chilled red sitting at my piano, with a candle lit is a really beautiful way to tap into a creative flow and bring a little romance into my life.

How do you nurture balance in your life? Any tips / tricks on how to enjoy yourself and stay grounded?

Balance is an interesting concept - I’m always trying to find an equilibrium between my creative pursuits, work and play. Most people in this world are all work and no play, but I often find opportunities to capitalize off of my play. I’ve been lucky that way. I spend a lot of time meditating, journaling, walking - always taking pauses between daily tasks and stressors to come back to myself and my body as much as possible. As an air sun, my mind can float away and I find that when I take the time to slow down, ground into my body and pause, I’m able to accomplish much more than I would have otherwise.

What’s filling your cup this season?

I’ve been recently getting back into cooking more and finding a lot of inspiration in the abundance that summer brings, always looking for an excuse to bake something. Other simple pleasures are brewing iced tea’s (hibiscus or camomile) to sip on the patio, and trying to get out to the water as much as possible.

I’ve been craving really crisp sparklings, or a really tart chilled red – I’m a big fan of Feints from Ruth Lewandowski and pick up a bottle whenever I come across one.

Who and what is inspiring you right now?

Music, always. My friends, always – I’m really inspired by people who are designing their lives around their own rhythms and not falling into the trap of the status quo, but consciously looking for ways they can expand into their best self, based on what that means for them individually.

Dream dinner party guests – dead or alive.

Oof – A tough one. It’s sentimental but probably one of the people I’ve loved and lost.. What I wouldn’t give for one last conversation.

Where’s your happy place?

There’s a lakehouse in small-town Idaho owned by some dear family friends that I visited every summer since I was 11 and it’s still my favorite place in the world - spending long mornings at the local coffee shop, perusing the antique mall, picking raspberries as the sun falls, playing music by the water and early morning swims. It’s the most peaceful place I can imagine and a place where I feel my most-self.

What’s the best advice you’d give your younger self?

I would tell her to slow down, and that there’s really nothing to be afraid of <3
